Bringing the future of tram transport to life

The innovative tram simulator for safe tram traffic of the future sets new standards in the development of assistance systems. The simulator is already demonstrating how modern technologies can make tram transport safer, more efficient and more sustainable.
IABG
• The tram simulator enables safe and efficient testing of modern assistance systems.
• Virtual training accelerates planning, training and development in local transport.
• Realistic simulations increase acceptance of new tram infrastructures.

Innovation award for a project team with a simulator that makes tram traffic safer and a tangible experience: the Bavarian joint project of Industrieanlagen-Betriebsgesellschaft mbH (IABG), Stadtwerke München GmbH (SWM) and GERSYS GmbH has been awarded the Coup de Cœur ‘Intelligence for Mobility, Transport and Logistics’. Project manager Christian Dörfler (IABG) is delighted with the honour and thanks those involved in the project: ‘Developers are shaping the future of public transport together with the operator — intelligently, safely and sustainably.’ The prize was awarded by the Centre for Transportation & Logistics Neuer Adler e.V. (CNA).

Bringing the future of tram transport to life

The tram simulator faithfully reproduces urban tram traffic. In collaboration with Optify, an impressive 3D environment model was created that simulates realistic traffic situations. Users experience tram operations from the driver’s and passenger’s perspective — also via virtual reality.

Innovative assistance systems for tram traffic

The innovative tram simulator for safe tram transport of the future enables the virtual testing of modern assistance systems. Transport companies can use the simulation to develop reliable requirement specifications, thereby saving costs and gaining planning certainty.

Tram simulator as a training and development platform

The innovative tram simulator for safe tram traffic of the future is not only used to develop technology, but also to train drivers. Driver training, assistance system tests and new construction planning can thus be prepared realistically, safely and efficiently.

Virtual reality for realistic traffic situations

Thanks to VR technology, passengers and residents can also experience future tram routes virtually. The innovative tram simulator for safe tram transport of the future thus helps to promote acceptance of new infrastructure projects right from the planning phase.

Industrieanlagen-Betriebsgesellschaft mbH (IABG) is a major European technology company with core competences in analysis, simulation & testing and plant operation. ‘Safety’ is the thematic umbrella of the solution portfolio: safety of newly developed high-tech products and means of transport as well as safety of the state, economy and society. In this context, IABG provides technical and scientific services for private and public customers in the automotive, rail & railway, energy technology, aerospace and defence industries as well as for the public sector. IABG employs around 1,200 highly qualified staff at its headquarters in Ottobrunn as well as in branches in Germany and abroad.

As a provider of instrumentation in the driver’s cab of rail and special vehicles, GERSYS develops and manufactures reliable on-board electronics such as graphical displays (HMI/IDU/MMI). The railway technology company’s product range includes vehicle computers as well as display and driver assistance systems, which are characterised by high quality and a particularly long service life. Founded in 2001, the company is based in Wolfratshausen near Munich and employs around 50 people at the site. GERSYS GmbH has been a wholly owned subsidiary of the HÜBNER Group since 2019. HÜBNER has around 3500 employees at over 30 locations around the globe.
