1.68 Billion for 40 Agglomerations
The Agglomeration Transportation Program is entering its fifth generation. The federal government is contributing 1.68 billion francs. Projects in 40 agglomerations will benefit from this funding. The federal government is not the sole source of funding; it supplements funds from cantons and municipalities.
The Largest Individual Projects
Some projects stand out. These include the Franca Magnani Bridge in Zurich and the Olten station plaza. The Hasle bypass near Burgdorf is also receiving funding. In addition, there is the Winterthurerstrasse underpass in Uster and the comprehensive transportation project in Oensingen.
Projects in French-speaking Switzerland and Ticino
French-speaking Switzerland is also benefiting significantly. The Grand-Saconnex transportation hub is receiving federal funding. In addition, the tram line is being extended to St-Genis-Pouilly. In the Lausanne-Morges metropolitan area, funds are being allocated for electric buses. In Ticino, the federal government is supporting the Galleria Moscia-Acapulco.
Funding via the NAF
The funds come from the National Road and Agglomeration Traffic Fund (NAF). This fund is 100 percent user-financed. Thus, it is primarily road users who pay. The article on financing explains how the NAF works.
