The first truck will be handed over to the Norwegian company Asko Norge AS. Four Swiss companies will follow in the coming months: Emmi Schweiz AG, Genossenschaft Migros Ostschweiz, TRAVECO Transporte AG, and Retralog AG. They will test the vehicles in everyday use over several years.
With the premiere in Bern, Scania is sending a clear signal for progress in sustainable transport technology. During the trade fair, Scania CEO Christian Levin symbolically handed over the keys to the Swiss pilot customers.
Hydrogen complements electrification
The truck presented is based on Scania’s electric powertrain, combined with a fuel cell system. This converts hydrogen into electrical energy, which drives the electric motor. The only emission is water vapor. The vehicle has a range of up to 1,000 kilometers and will be tested in real-world transport operations. The combination of long range, short refueling times, and electrical efficiency makes fuel cells particularly interesting for long-distance transport. With this technology, Scania is expanding its multi-energy strategy—from battery-electric vehicles to biofuels and hydrogen—to enable the transition to fossil-free transport solutions depending on the area of application.
Four Swiss companies are leading the way
Four leading Swiss companies – Emmi Schweiz AG, Genossenschaft Migros Ostschweiz, TRAVECO Transporte AG, and Retralog AG – are participating in the Scania Pilot Partner Program. Over the coming months, they will each take delivery of a vehicle and test it in daily use – from distribution to long-distance transport.
The practical tests will show how the technology performs in different areas of application. The findings will help to better assess the practical benefits, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness of hydrogen technology.
Scania Pilot Partner – testing innovation in everyday use
The Scania Pilot Partner Program provides a platform for joint development, testing, and exchange. Together with selected customers, Scania is testing new drive and energy solutions under real-world conditions – from battery electric to biofuels and hydrogen.
These partnerships allow us to gather important practical experience. This experience flows directly into the further development of production-ready products. In this way, we ensure that new solutions not only work technically, but also prove themselves in everyday use.
