Zingg Transporte AG surprises with a new real-world record. The fully electric Scania 40R reaches up to 550 kilometres on daily delivery routes and exceeds all expectations. The e‑truck drives reliably, quietly and efficiently across Switzerland.
Scania 40R BEV reaches 550 kilometres range at Zingg Transporte AG
The Scania 40R BEV reaches 550 kilometres range at Zingg Transporte AG and sets a new benchmark. Initial evaluations predicted slightly above 400 kilometres. However, the e‑truck delivered noticeably higher values after only a few weeks.
Since the end of June, the new tractor unit has covered more than 40,000 kilometres without any notable issues. Markus Baumann, Head of Transport, draws a clear conclusion and confirms that all expectations have been fully met.
Driver boosts range through precise data tracking
The driver plays a decisive role. He documents every trip including weather, route profile and kilometres achieved. He analyses his driving style daily. This pays off because the range continues to increase steadily.
It is therefore not surprising that peak values above 500 kilometres were achieved multiple times. Even the experienced driver was impressed.
Scania 40R with powerful electric drivetrain
The Scania 40R is based on a full air-suspended 4x2 NB with a long wheelbase. The front axle carries 9 tonnes and the rear axle 13 tonnes. The spacious CR20H cab offers comfort and quietness during long weekly tours.
The EM C1‑4 electric drivetrain delivers 400 kW and more than 3,000 Nm of torque. It ensures strong acceleration and quiet running, making every trip smoother and more efficient.
Fully electric, even the cooling unit
Not only the tractor unit runs electrically. The cooling unit of the trailer is also powered electrically by the truck. This creates a fully electric transport combination with zero CO2 emissions. It marks an important milestone for Zingg Transporte AG.
Four sustainable heavy vehicles already in operation
Zingg Transporte AG has invested in low-emission logistics for years. Four heavy and completely emission-free vehicles are already part of the fleet. These include hydrogen trucks and additional BEV units.
The Scania 40R now replaces a conventional diesel tractor unit. Thanks to its range, it can handle routes across the entire country.
Own charging infrastructure in Villmergen
Villmergen in the canton of Aargau serves as the operational base. Three high-power charging stations with 384 kW each have been installed. From there, the Scania drives daily to Eastern Switzerland and back, then continues towards Western Switzerland. No intermediate charging is required, which reduces operating costs significantly.
Awarded Lean and Green member
Zingg Transporte AG consistently reduces its CO2 emissions. With a 30 percent reduction already achieved, the company received the international “2nd Star Lean and Green” award in 2025. This highlights its strong commitment to sustainable logistics in Switzerland.
